Our Impact and What We Do
Duffel of Dreams was established April of 2023 in Ball, Louisiana. Our non-profit organization serves foster families and their foster children. Duffel of Dreams is a Christian based charity that desires to be the dove that sends hope to God’s children in the foster care system. We intend to fill a void caused by limited funding in the foster care system. As well as being a mental health educational resource for foster families and the general public to learn more on childhood trauma through our website and social media platforms.
Support is provided to foster families through donated items like suitcases/duffel bags, personal care, hygiene, clothes, and personal possessions will be delivered to foster children within the community through fostering organizations. The luggage and items within the duffel bags will personally belong to the foster child to bring with them along their foster journey.
The Story
Hi everyone, my name is Danielle; I am the founder of the Duffel of Dreams charity, and I am here to make a difference. The Lord has blessed me with a heart full of love and the passion to help others. I have had the dream to help children in foster care ever since I was a young girl, and that dream is finally coming true.
I would like to start with a little back story on where and how this charity began. I was blessed to grow up in a loving and caring home with two wonderful parents and a great sister that I call my best friend. At a young age, I learned the value of family, and it continues to grow as I do. One Sunday in church, the preacher stood up and asked if any of us would like to sponsor a child living in an orphanage. They showed pictures on the big screen of the poor living environment and the children’s total lack of personal items. As a child, I could not fathom the thought of someone living in those conditions. So, of course, as the eager 10-year-old that I was, I raised my hand and instantly became the sponsor of a young girl living in an orphanage. I wrote letters and sent pictures back and forth with her until she became adopted. My heart grew for children in her situation, so my imagination began to run, and that is when I decided I was going to do something to help these children that are just like me but in need of love and support.
Now that I am older and have the platform to make a difference and advocate for children in foster care, I have decided that it is time to make my dream a reality. So, here we go; Duffel of Dreams was created to be the dove that brings hope to God’s children living within the foster care system.
